Effective communication skills are key to success in today’s business world. All jobs, regardless of their nature, require excellent communication skills. If you want to advance in your role, you must be able to express yourself clearly while also listening and understanding the needs, desires, and intentions of others when they communicate.

  • Understanding Communication: We analyze what communication means to participants. They then review the three main components of communication: verbal, paraverbal, and nonverbal.
  • Communication Styles: Exploration of different communication styles, establishing the positive and negative aspects of each and how they impact communication.
  • The Role of Attitude in Communication: Analysis of the three attitudes that can be displayed: aggressive, assertive, passive, and passive-aggressive.
  • Confident Communication: Factors that make people confident communicators. Participants identify their own communication strengths and explore when they apply them.
  • Active Listening: Identification of the benefits of active listening and practice of this skill with peers.
  • Clarification Questions and Techniques: Review of the different types of questions and clarification techniques that can be used. Understanding the purpose of different questioning approaches, applying them to different scenarios, and explaining how and why they are used.
  • Nonverbal Communication: An overview of nonverbal communication: how to read body language and how to improve your own. Facial expressions, posture, gestures, personal space, and physical touch are analyzed.
  • Impactful Messages: How to speak clearly and concisely using the “headline” approach to structure an effective message. The importance of focusing on the needs of the person receiving the message.
  • Difficult Communication: Preparing for a conversation where emotions and stakes are high. What to do when communication goes wrong, how to handle criticism and give constructive feedback.
